Dental Hygiene

We all agree that dental hygiene is one of the most important medical precautions for yourself. From early childhood, throughout our lives, we hear about the need for regular toothpaste, dental visits, control of processed sugar intake, and emphasis on smiles and the beauty of white teeth.

And, as we were told and taught, we applied.

But are we taught correctly?

Today, over-the-counter toothpaste options are very widespread on the market, but in reality, choosing the best – most healthy toothpaste is not that easy at all.

Nevertheless, humans seem to be returning more and more to nature – alternatives are being considered.

The synthetic ingredients of hygiene products are used almost universally, and people are starting to react. Allergic reactions cause fear of what is contained in these products, and toothpaste has been carefully selected.

Despite many toothpaste brands and even more flavors, there are people who simply can’t get used to their smell and taste and nothing helps, but toothpaste from their own kitchen.

Have you ever heard of the term natural toothpaste? Do you know what this means?

We will explain it to you …

Simply put, natural toothpaste is a paste that contains natural ingredients such as peppermint, lemon, sage oil, salt, turmeric, baking soda and many others. All of these are ingredients that have a positive effect on tooth decay and are very effective at removing bacteria. These are natural and safe ingredients for our body, so you can adjust the taste of toothpaste for yourself.

Today we have a choice. We decide whether to buy a classic over-the-counter toothpaste or make a natural-based homemade toothpaste.

This is not a questionnaire, but you can list some of the basic characteristics of toothpaste that you use.

For example, some are white or other colors, with different scents and tastes.

But did you ever read product declarations and got familiar with toothpaste ingredients?

Some of these ingredients in toothpaste can be harmful to your dental and physical health. It is advisable to pay attention to the presence and proportion of fluorine, aluminum, synthetic foam, and different scents.

Fluoride is an ingredient contained in almost all the toothpastes. Small doses are good because it prevents bacteria that produce tooth decay.

However, possible high doses of fluoride in toothpaste can cause permanent changes on your teeth, especially white spots and fluorosis (cavities and dents on the surface of your teeth).

The recommended daily dose of fluoride is 4-10 milligrams, 2 grams is considered lethal, and toothpaste contains 0.31 grams per 100 grams of product.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS)

Perhaps the most dangerous ingredient in personal care products (commercial toothpastes) is sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS).

Its main role is to produce a foam and it gives consumers an impression that toothpaste is effective.

However, SLS is highly corrosive and harmful to skin tissue. Included in most shampoos, including baby products its harmful effects can cause eye irritation, hair growth effects, and even DNA changes.

It is rapidly absorbed and deposited in the tissues of the body, especially the heart, liver, lungs and brain.

Triclosan in toothpaste

Triclosan is a chlorophenol (common in the composition of toothpaste) that is suspected of causing various skin irritations, impairing the activity of sex hormones and causing infertility. Prolonged exposure toto Triclosan can damage the liver, kidneys, heart and lungs and reduce the effectiveness of the immune system.
